It’s a good time to enjoy zombies in your video games. In the past month or so we’ve seen the announcement of a few new zombie-themed games. To be honest, we kind of put these announcements on the back burner because we just plain forgot about E3, and boy is it surprising us just by how many zombie and zombie-related games are being announced. We’ll have some announcements on them up in the next few days, but for the meantime, here’s what was announced previous to E3.
dying light

Dying Light is probably the biggest announcement in recent weeks. (The trailer is above.) This is a new game by Techland, the people who made Dead Island. (Which I still don’t have a computer capable of running, so I don’t really know how good it is.) This is a zombie action/survival game based on a tropical island… OK, so that sounds a lot like Dead Island. However, what’s keeping it apart from their other games is the heavy emphasis on parkour/free-running. So it’s basically Dead Island meets Mirror’s Edge. Sounds like a winning combo to me! Personally, I’m glad parkour games exist. I’m not all that athletic and if I ever tried it in real life I’d end up like that scene from The Office.

HowToSurviveReveal610

How to Stay Alive is the most recently announced of the group. Again, it’s got a heavy focus on survival and scavenging, but it’s also an isometric, third-person viewpoint  game instead of the much more common first person perspective. Not much info about this game so far, though. So keep your eyes peeled.

Lastly we have a game called 7 Days to Die. Yet again it’s got a big focus on survival and scavenging. It also claims to be a sandbox game with an even bigger focus on crafting. I’ve seen people bandy about comparisons to Minecraft. I guess we’ll have to see. The picture here doesn’t look that great, but apparently it’s from a very early pre-alpha build, so they should have improved the graphics by the time it comes out later this year.
