Shhh, we here at Buy Zombie are going to let you in on one of Hollywood’s darkest secrets – World War Z is nothing like its namesake book. Surprise, surprise, right?…Well no, not really. The impeding release of World War Z has been met with a wide array of responses. The one thing that is clear about the movie is that it has little to do with the best selling book by Max Brooks.
In a recent interview Brooks was asked about his feelings towards the movie and its script.
“I said: Why would I read this? This is not the movie you’re going to make. You’re going to do rewrites and reshoots. That’s what happens when you make a giant movie.
“My attitude is if you haven’t invited me in to contribute, then fine. Go make the movie you want to make and I’ll see it when it comes out.”
Brooks, the product of a Hollywood family, seems to have expected all along that his book was going to be optioned for little more than its title, though his response does seem a bit pointed.
Brooks admits that he has only seen a two minute trailer, which is a bit strange considering that he wrote the book, but then again it’s Hollywood, so strange is to be expected.
When asked how fans of the books might react to the movie Brooks said, “I cannot guarantee that the movie will be the book that they love. And I’m in no position to tell people to see this movie or not see it. If I’m asked I say: See the movie as a movie and judge it as a movie.”
Personally, I’m not really sure where I fall in this debate. I enjoyed the style and story of  World War Z and it would be awesome to see some of the scenes brought to life, but that seems unlikely. On the other hand, I would really like to see Hollywood produce some quality zombie movies with budgets. But in the end I’m not holding my breath. World War Z seems to promise some glimmer of hope in this regard. That being said, I think the movie will either be a shot in the rotted arm of the zombie genre or a nail in its coffin.

I’ve always thought that the book would be a great series to run on HBO, with each different chapter being a different episode.
That’s a great idea! Too bad no one thought of doing that before Brad Pitt bought it…
Genius idea right there.
I love that idea. Unfortunately, since the _Walking Dead_ world fits in a WWZ scenario, it might be seen as a copy-cat and cash-grab.
I’m going to go and support the genre and hope for the best.
Rhiannon, that’s probably the best attitude to have. Who knows maybe the movie could be good on it’s own merits?
