Awhile back the people at Buzzfeed and Hopper teamed up to the crunch the numbers and figure out which of the US states would do the best when the inevitable zombie apocalypse occurs.The results are displayed in a series of awesome maps displaying various areas of the country.

Now this debate is something that I’m sure has occurred in many of our households, but I had never really considered Walmart to be a factor because it’s Walmart (Click the link if you disagree. Seriously check these pictures and you tell me that these wouldn’t be some of the most terrifying undead monsters you ever faced). At first I was quick to write off the impact of Walmart because, well again, it’s Walmart and I’ll be the first to admit that I don’t want to go there on a regular day, let alone one filled with zombies, but to a certain degree this variable makes sense. Aside from counting the number of Walmarts, things like gun stores, hospitals, population and military bases were also considered, which makes sense.

Take a moment to consider this specimen as a zombie…you’ll get tired long before that scooter runs out of juice…

So what’s the best state to be in when the dead rise? Evidently it’s California. I’ll admit that I don’t 100% agree with these findings, but if you visit Hopper’s site they give a detailed and convincing argument. Of course I had to check my home state of New Jersey, which ended up with a decent ranking of 19…personally I think The Armpit of America would be fair better than that, but “it’s a Jersey thing” so you’d have to live there to agree.
