twilightcreationsSo, I’m not sure how many of you are familiar with Twilight Creations Inc. They’re a fairly small publisher of board games. They deal mostly in horror-themed games and especially zombie-themed horror games.  They’ve been around for over a decade now and have actually been fairly influential. Heck, if it weren’t for their 2001 game Zombies!!! then the zombie board gaming scene might not exist in the form it does today. They’re pioneers in that regard, especially since their Zombies!!! line of games tended to have large amounts of plastic zombie miniatures. Heck, they’re still kind of the go-to guys for large amounts of little zombies. (Available in male, female, dog, clown, and glow-in-the-dark.) The games they make have mixed reputations. I’ve heard some people sing their praises and other people politely insist that they aren’t that great. To be entirely honest, I’ve only ever played half a game of Zombies!!!, back in 2005, so I’m not personally sure how good it is or how good any of their other games are, either. I’ve always meant to get a copy Zombies!!! and find it out, but it’s never seemed to bee high enough on the list for me to put the disposable income aside. However, I’ve recently been re-evaluating that.

You see, Todd Breitenstein, one of the owners/founders/designers at TCI, has been battling cancer for the past nine months, and, well… I’ll let his wife, Kerry do the explaining:

The cancer has advanced to stage IV with metastasis to his lungs. He has been in the hospital with infections and uncontrolled pain for the last three weeks, but hopefully we will be able to move him home to continue his battle.

So, yeah. I don’t know any more than what’s been announced. She goes on to say that while they will be slowing down production a bit, they won’t be stopping entirely. We here at BuyZombie wish Todd and his family all the best in his fight. I personally know how hard it can be to have a loved one battle cancer. My father was lucky enough to survive a cancer he had a few years ago, but it was tough seeing him go through chemotherapy.

To my knowledge, the Breitensteins haven’t requested any donations or the like. However, if you want to show your support for them, you can go to this forum thread at boardgamegeek.com and lend some words of support (a free account is required). They are watching the thread, so your kind words will be read and appreciated. If you do want to assist them monetarily, then I can’t imagine a better way than to buy their products. You can buy their games directly from their online store, or if you’d prefer, you can also check out your friendly local game store. The support isn’t as direct via your FLGS, but you’d still be supporting them, and helping out your local economy at the same time.
