Well, it’s been an interesting few weeks. While there have been more projects to choose from, I personally have felt that the potential quality hasn’t been as high as at other times. At the very least they haven’t seemed as interesting to me. However, there are a few promising projects.
First off, we have a very interesting book: The New Zombie Screen Companion. I love movies, and I love encyclopedias about certain genres. I have ever since I first read an encyclopedia of the classic Universal Monster movies when I was six or seven years old. This one is all about zombies, which is a must-read for everyone who visits this site. And yet, it has not received a single dollar in donations. This is a travesty! I have an excuse in that I’m practically broke and have a kid on the way. What’s your excuse? I beg of you, if you only donate to one campaign, donate to this one. Help us all by helping this guy.
Next up is a different kind of book. All My Friends are Zombies is one man’s inquiry into what his friends would be like as zombies. Not only visually, but personality-wise. A fascinating study, to be sure. The artwork looks neat, and I am intrigued by the idea of people discovering what they think their personalities would be like as zombies. It’s already met the funding goal, so this book will be made, though you can still donate to get your copy of the book or help him reach his stretch goals. (Stretch goals have been announced, but not revealed just yet.)
Next is a film called Project ZED. (Not sure why, since it looks like it’s being made by Americans and not Brits.) I’m not sure how I feel about this one. The short previews certainly look really nice, but they’re a bit lacking in interesting content and I always groan when I see someone advertizing their movie/book/whatever as something that’s “the likes of which you’ve never seen” or “a gritty, modern approach”. Generally speaking, such works are neither of those things. There’s nothing new under the sun when it comes to zombies or the zombie apocalypse. I doubt that he’s going to bring anything revolutionary to the table. Still, he makes a good pitch, and if he can make his movie more interesting than the small clips we’re shown, then it might be worth watching.
I would also like to give another shout-out for The Z Word. This short film looks very interesting to me, and they’re close to reaching their goal, but haven’t made it quite yet.
