prepareThe British newspaper The Telegraph recently ran an article about the British Government’s preparedness for the Zombie Apocalypse. Under the headline “Britain is Well Prepared to Fight the Apocalyptic Zombie Invasion” . The headline is a bit misleading though, because the article is just about the rather generic response to a Freedom of Information request to the British Ministry of Defense. The response reads:

“In the event of an apocalyptic incident (eg zombies), any plans to rebuild and return England to its pre-attack glory would be led by the Cabinet Office, and thus any pre-planning activity would also taken place there.

“The Ministry of Defence’s role in any such event would be to provide military support to the civil authorities, not take the lead. Consequently, the Ministry of Defence holds no information on this matter.”

In other words, they don’t really have a plan for a major disaster besides “help out the people in charge of emergency planning” let alone a zombie-specific plan.  Which, you have to grant them, it’s apparently not their job to come up with a plan for the zombie apocalypse.

So, while it nice to know that hopefully someone in the government is thinking about how to help people out during a zombie attack (or any major disaster) this really just emphasizes how important personal emergency preparedness is. Sure, the government might be coming to help out, but how long will it take them to get to you?
