The Zombie Show

The Zombie Show was written by Gerald Rice. This was the first book of his that I’ve read and it was definitely…interesting. It has sex, drugs and enough blood and guts to satisfy any horror buffs cravings.

The book is set after the zombie
apocalypse with zombies, often called “zoo boys” being few and far between. A shoot on site law has been adopted to help deal with the few roaming packs that are still left. While society is still piecing itself back together people still go missing every day. Some of that can be blamed on a cartel leader called Mazatlan. He takes people, and gives them a shot of the virus known as NMX-13. Mazatlan uses these people to make money in underground zombie sex shows.

Yes.

You read that right folks.

Zombie sex shows.

Cole Green, an undercover agent, describes these acts as being worse than bestiality and I tend to agree. Yet he is on his way to one with one goal in mind. He plans to kill Mazatlan. He is headed to Mexico with a bunch of snobby college kids who are just in it for the experience.

He’s willing to do whatever it takes to take Mazatlan down.

One of the men Mazatlan has turned is a zombie called Jose. Jose isn’t like the other zombies. He almost never tries to eat the humans around him anymore. He knows they’ll bring him food. The parts of the book written from his point of view are sad, disgusting and a bit primitive. Jose knows that he hasn’t always been a zombie and he knows that Mazatlan is to blame. He hates Mazatlan for what he’s done to him.

This book may be a bit over the top but it was a very interesting take on zombies. The idea that zombies would still crave sex is new to me and I found the story hard to get into. I couldn’t relate to or sympathize with any of the characters.
