REVIEW: 28 Weeks Later

Considering that I haven’t done any reviews lately I have decided to take a trip back to my past, my past concerning horror reviews. Before any type of website gig, I reviewed horror movies on IMDb and below is one of my first reviews for 28 Weeks Later. I don’t own this movie, however I am sure I will stand by what I said about it since it is a great film. Since, back then, I wasn’t as analytical as I am now… this review may sound a little choppy but I did my best to revise it. I hope you enjoy one of my first reviews.

“I thought that this movie would be the worst sequel to one of the best zombie flicks ever. I was DEAD wrong. This movie had everything, well almost everything that the original had. It’s essentially 28 weeks after the events of the original movie and the Rage Virus had taken to the streets in a rapid epidemic and Britain is on lockdown. With help from the US troops, they pose an equal chance to defend themselves while a family is being torn apart by these events and trying to get out of the country. But British scientists and US scientists may have found a cure to the Rage Virus.

It had great acting by Robert Carlyle, Mackintosh Muggleton and Jeremy Renner, which really made this movie work, the concept was dynamite and the post-apocalyptic Britain sets where amazing. It really put me in the mood of the film. At points it had me jump out of my seat with it’s suspense and CG gore and violence was superb. The actions scenes are masterfully done, effectively placing the viewer in the role of the victims and the crazed. I felt like I was there on the streets when all hell was breaking loose. It had sad, life-damaging scenes since the family we follow is being torn apart from this whole incident. It was beautifully done and me care for the characters. The score and sound effects gave me shutters and whole thing was great. There where scenes (ie: the gas-bomb car scene) that where brilliant but also quite frightening.

However, as much as I praise and love this movie I think that it did not have the sly humor or the character development as the previous movie, but aside from that, this movie is genuinely perfect. The emotions and the powerful disturbing images and cinematography really made this movie work, and the depiction of how human nature really is. In summation, I believe that this movie was one of the best sequels to a zombie flick since Dawn of the Dead and Land of the Dead.”
