REVIEW: Breathers: A Zombies Lament by S. G. Browne

Breathers: A Zombies Lament is not your typical zombie novel. There is no post apocalyptic scenario here, only good old zombie fun. Just by looking at the cover its noticeable this novel will be different then any other zombie literature you’ve read. Depending on who you are, that is either a good thing or a bad thing.

Andy Warner has been in a terrible car accident. Both Andy and his wife, Rachel, have passed away. One thing is different between their deaths. Forty-eight hours after his death, Andy reanimated while his wife stayed dead. Life as a zombie is not all it’s played out to be in books and movies. Zombies don’t reanimate and go looking for human flesh. More than anything they are humiliated, mistreated, harassed and even dismembered by the local population. Do to the state laws about zombies, they are unable to fight back and pretty much unable to do anything.

There is something zombies are allowed to do. There is a weekly Zombies Anonymous they are allowed to go to. There Andy meets with fellow zombies, his best friend Jerry, his love interest Rita along with more interesting zombies. They discussed how they died, what they want out of their new existence. Andy has trouble communicating do to damaging his vocal cords in the car accident. The dry erase board around his neck is a big help.

Another place zombies are welcomed is the graveyard. On Halloween, Andy and his zombie friends are making their way to the cemetery. Afraid they would be harassed by the living or as they like to call Breathers, they stick to the shadows. A man tries to make contact with them he runs towards them as a car makes a sharp turn and runs him down. Andy and his friends reach the man to offer some assistance when the man stands up this is how the group meets Ray. After the introductions they all go back to Ray’s house where he shares a special type of dear jerky. But once these zombies get a taste of the jerky there existence will never be the same. What exactly is in that mystery jerky?

Like I said before Breathers is a zombie book like none other. It’s a witty, intelligent and all around hilarious zombie novel. This book had me laughing almost every other page. All the zombie characters are unique in there own special way. I felt a connection with all of them and that’s always a good trait. Along with being funny Breathers is a well written masterpiece. I do not understand why people over at Amazon have been giving this book negative reviews. One of their big complaints is that it’s not you typical zombie novel. I knew that just by looking at the cover. If you know what you’re getting into before you start reading you might enjoy it more.

Breathers: A Zombies lament is highly recommended by us here at Buyzombie.com. If you’re looking for a book that will make you laugh, cry and hide under your bed this is the book for you.
