REVIEW: Grampa’s Zombie BBQ by Kirk Scroggs
Grampa’s Zombie BBQ is book #2 in Scroggs book series Creature Features. The rest of the books in his series are non-zombie related so they will not be reviewed on this site. However, if you do pick up a copy of this book please support the author and check out the other stories in his series. You’re children will enjoy them and you might get a chuckle out of them. I did.
Wiley’s Grampa is holding his annual BBQ. All the guests have been invited and are encouraged to bring their own signature dishes. The BBQ has started and the entire population of Gingham County is having a wonderful time, until a solar eclipse blocks out the sun and the aroma of Grampa’s BBQ wakes the dead. The residents of Eternal Naps Cemetery crawl out of their graves and head for the BBQ.
The town’s folk are frightened but once the zombies reach the BBQ all they want to eat is the food. This is a relief to the town’s folk. Now everyone is having a good time. The zombies are playing games, eating good food and even doing some karaoke. The BBQ is turning out to be a big success until the food runs out. With no more food to keep the zombies’ hunger at bay, they decide to eat the living. It’s now up to Wiley, Grampa, Granma, Jubal (Wiley’s sidekick) and Merle the Cat to stop the zombies. Can they do it? You’ll have to read the book to find out.
I enjoy reading children’s zombie books to my 2 year old daughter and she loves them. Every evening when I spend time with her she always says “Daddy zombies? Zombies Daddy†So yes I will review children-zombie books here at Buyzombie.com. Grampa’s Zombie BBQ is a fun and hilarious book to read. Even though my daughter doesn’t understand everything she laughs when I laugh. The book is filled with great illustrations. Merle the cat is a character you’ll have to keep your eye on. The zombies are fantastically drawn, they don’t look scary but they look goofy. Keep in mind this is a children’s book. Scroggs does a great job making the zombies flesh eaters but making it less scary for children.
Overall Grampa’s Zombie BBQ is a fun read. If you’re looking for a children’s book to read to your kids you have to check this one out.
