Three HUGE The Walking Dead Developments From This Week

With Comic Con winding down there appeared to be a slow delay in The Walking Dead news this week though 3 big pieces have trickled out. One piece is great news, one is horrible, and finally there is a response to to the horrible news that needed to happen. It could make huge changes to how The Walking Dead progresses into Season 2 being filmed.

The Good: Greg Nicotero Will Give Us Webisodes!

We are getting 6 webisodes off The Walking Dead between Season 1 and Season 2! Yes that’s right we are getting 6 mini features of ‘something’ The Walking Dead related that are being filmed next month. Would you like to know what they follow? Well they will showcase “Hannah” and her children who are taking place in her ex-husbands house from the undead. The webisodes will be directed by Greg Nicotero. [via: Bloody-Disgusting.]

The Bad: Frank Darabont Has Left The Walking Dead

We have absolutely no information on what happened. All we do know is that Deadline has stepped down from the show as stonerunner after only one season. Frank spent 5 years lobbying for the show to be created and after one groundbreaking season is leaving with, so far, no explanation. Short of a health issue I can’t picture there being a good side to what played out here. Hell Frank was just at The Walking Dead’s Comic Con panel a week ago.

Is he gone completely? Not yet. We still don’t know what has happened but he IS remaining on as an Executive Producer of the show at this time with series creator Robert Kirkman.

The Neutral: Glen Mazzara To Be The Walking Dead Showrunner

With Frank stepping down Deadline let us know that the show’s executive producer, Glen Mazzara, is picking up the reigns. For those who are worried that Mazzara, who wasn’t involved in running the show until Season 2 and all of the planning for it, he WAS one of the writers of 6 of the episodes for Season 1. Not only that, but Mazara has the chops on running a series having previously been in charge of both The Shield and Season 1 of Crash and the 2nd season of Hawthorne.
